Obama's victory speech was effing brilliant. When I saw Jesse Jackson weeping I just lost it and bawled my eyes out. I didn't know there was a weight on my shoulders until it was lifted off. OMG...I can actually walk around with my head held high again.

Help

Yes.
WOW! Yes I cried too………….
And we have a place to put ALL THAT PRO-ACTIVE ENERGY to the good…..

Come join in the discussions

Congratulations to Americ and its new president!
Albert
Yes.
Pretty damned amazing isnt it? Yes!
So happy for y'all, i was brimming over too, and I am in UK.
Peggy do your representatives have a website like our politicians do? We can communicate with ours and with hard work and persistence change does come eventually. Someone should invite Obama and hiis wife to join Gaia. LOL
yes, a magnificent speech & a powerful moment seeing Jesse Jackson crying. And yes I cried too with a feeling of relief that an opening for change is a happening. I'm in Denmark, which feels like Obama land too as 88% of Danes would have made the same choice if pos.
shit I missed the Jesse Jackson moment….and I so need a cry.
Hey gais. I'm of the major demographic group that voted for Obama the least. Maybe that's why this whole experience was so emotional for me. I so wanted my vote to count. I so wanted the country to make the right decision. And guess what? Yes! We did, but the wait was rough on my sleep cycle. A local newspaper a few days trumpeted “African-Americans on pins and needles awaiting the election.” They weren't the only ones. Wow, we did it!
Love you all…..;-)

Congrats kcidybom and all my American cousins,
Obama transcends race. He's black. He's white. He's a union of both. And he's much, much more than that … because he's way more than the colour of his skin or the party he belongs to. He represents a new era where labels and categories are disappearing , and the well-being of mankind and the planet are coming to the forefront. Awesome!
Hi Zephyr
Someone should invite Obama and hiis wife to join Gaia. LOL

President Barack Obama & You!
Peggy I'm about to go post a link to this on the Pod.
It's my blog for today – for anyone who missed the speech or the joyous, tearful faces i the crowd, the whole thing is there on my blog, along with the transcript that I typed out while listening over and over again to that brilliant speech!!
and otter has compiled a brilliant list of quotes that fit right in with that message.
albert – it's so wonderful to see you posting again! I've missed you!
and I'm tickled that Obama is going to get a Gaia invitation. Why don't we all send one! :-)
I am probably going to get misty eyed for the rest of my life every time I think about last night, and that speech.
and you blogging again makes me cry too,I miss seeing you here.
Me too B.B, me too.
Is it just me everyone, or is the air a little cleaner today, a little easier to breathe?
Oh, and if you haven't read this yet please do. We can change! Yes!
I don't think I had ever been so nervous or scared for so long as the final days leading up to the election. Having seen firsthand the shenanigans the politicos can and have pulled off, the malfunctioning voting machines (only when one voted Democratic) the missed deliveries of ballots and fliers changing the voting dates, I was on pins, needles, razors, clam rakes and nails. But, what a finish, eh?! Enfin!
Agreed Geo, what a beautiful finish.
great link albert. so touching.
george – what's a clam rake?? :-)
beautiful finish indeed!!
and george –welcome home. :-)
A clam rake can be a fast back, bubble, square back, jerk or Rhode Island rake. It sits very quietly on the porch just outside the door of the shack on the shore near to its companion, the wire bucket. The handle is wooden and may be 100 years old, stained with sweat and oils from those that have used it. It's grasped along with the bucket and carried down to the tidal flats at low tide, twice a day, but best at sunrise or sunset. Then, quietly falling into a rhythm of digging and searching, all sorts of wonderful clams are raked from rich and flowing sands and soils as the ocean has departed for a bit. It is the best tool for letting one's mind fall quiet as the cold ocean swirls around your rubber booted feet and the shore birds follow like obedient doggies. It allows the fears of a stolen election to fall away as fast as the wire bucket fills. Then, when all fears have drifted off, then you can collect driftwood, build a fire, snap the transistor radio off as the election was won, yes, we can, and prepare the clams over the rich pitch pine fire and ponder, what's next?
wauv! that is without competition the best describtion of a clam rake ever..I see the sun setting, hear the ocean, smell the pitchpine & yearn for clams, thank you Geo : )
Wow Geo, that is a beautiful description. Het, are you one of Obama's speech writers?
And Dawn, I really liked that story too. It's flavored with hope.
George, that was beautiful. Albert, I cried too. I so feared issued with counting the votes. I was so happy in that clean moment when the results were announced. I thought McCain's concession speech was eloquent too. I will never forget the night of Nov. 4th.
thank you for enlightening me about clam rakes George. I really am a Colorado girl. I know so little about coasts and beaches and such. :-)
my son sent me a clipping of the brooklyn streets after the acceptance speech. He is in there some where with a flag shirt on. here it is. I have never done that hyperlink thing so I hope it works.
The hyperlink worked perfectly. And thanks - the photos are perfect - celebratory and cautionary at the same time.
I was so happy on the night of the 4th of Nov. I wrote a poem instantaneously on the screen directly on my Gaia blog.
A DREAM FULFILLED
A DREAM FULFILLED
a poem written by Samme S. Samareta
on the night of November 4, 2008
directly on the Gaia.com blog
dedicated to the hearts and souls
of every man and woman living and dead
and dedicated to President Barack Obama
Thank you for the dream
The dream that was once deferred
The dream that is now no longer a dream
A dream that is now fulfilled
They say this dream
Is an impossible dream
But no star is unreachable
Everyone is teachable
To the ways of the heart and soul
Everyone is able
Go tell it to the mountain
Because their eyes were watching god
Mountain high, river deep, valley low
Swing high, sweet chariot
The promised land is not a land
It is a heart of a man or a woman
This time of a man who will lead us
To change and give us new hope
Go set the table for we will dine
We’re all one and all is fine
We will sit with the spirits of those
Who came before us
Who sadly perished
Who built the foundations of this nation
Along with the indigenous peoples
Who worked and toiled this soil
Who breathed the same air
That they even want to sell
Come let us sit among kindred
The souls of black folks
Nameless faces
Forgotten tribes and races
Erased traditions and communications
Still they rise
Tubman, Dubois, Harriett Beecher Stowe
Langston Hughes, Frederick Douglass,
John Brown, James Baldwin
Rosa Parks, Malcolm X,
Martin Luther King, Jr.
who ignited the dream
Countless dead folks
And living people
I am the dream
You are the dream
We are the dream
Together as one
We will make it
A reality.
